In the first quarter of 2013 surveyors across the UK reported increased workloads that bring the building industry to a level not seen since the end of 2007.

The rise in the private housing construction suggested that some of the government initiatives were beginning to work and revitalise the construction sector.

With the rise in workloads many chartered surveyors anticipate a rise in employment levels over the coming year.

However despite of noticeable rise in London, the South East and the Midlands , Northern Ireland and Scotland still continue to see falling workloads.

2012-13 Employer Annual Returns are due by 19 May 2013 and businesses are encouraged to send them as soon as possible to avoid late filing penalty. Filing Annual return online is a requirement for almost all employers.

If you are not already reporting PAYE in real time, you need to act now.

The seasonally adjusted Markit Index, which measures overall output in the Construction Industry, reached 47.2 during March, up from a 40-month low of 46.8 in February.

The decline in new orders has slown down and House building grew at the fastest rate since May 2012 and it is expected that the residential sector will see a rise in output over the next 12 months. It is hoped more orders will begin to come in, helping the economy recover from the downturn.

Government and Kingfisher Group announced a new credit scheme aiming to widen the access to funding for small business in the Construction Industry.

Businesses and tradesmen can now apply for credit account of up to £25,000 through B&Q TradePoint and Screwfix - part of the Kingfisher Group.

This scheme is hoped to provide a boost to the building industry and save construction jobs.

Business minister Michael Fallon said "Britain's builders have a vital role to play in delivering growth in this country and we're determined to get behind them"
