HMRC is taking steps to reduce CIS repayments delays

Following a number of concerns expressed by by Construction Industry contractors regarding delays in issuing CIS repayments, HMRC are taking urgent steps to rectify the situation so that they can repay contractors as quickly as possible. HMRC are redeploying up to 60 staff to help to manage this work. Current plans indicate that by the end of August the backlog of CIS scheme repayments will be reduced to 15 days work on hand. Where a business is awaiting a repayment and separately owes a debt to HMRC, the Debt Management & Banking service will agree to postpone any action to recover the debt while the repayment is pending.
